LOUIS CRUISES is fighting the $1.7 million fine the Greek Ministry of Mercantile Marine imposed on the cruise line last month, for alleged pollution caused by the April sinking of the Sea Diamond. Calling the fine "entirely unfair and unfounded," Louis sent a letter to the Ministry on July 4, saying that it had done "much more than what is prescribed by the relevant laws" to contain and handle any pollution from sinking. In response to the Ministry 's charge that Louis was dragging its feet on pumping the remaining oil from the wreck, Louis said that it had commissioned several studies on ways to remove it.
